FAQs

Membership & Involvement

  • The CFIG General Body includes everyone who regularly attends our weekly speaker events and workshops. Any student can join CFIG’s General Body. OCMs are a select few first and second-year undergraduates who have the privilege of working closely with the CFIG E-Board. See below for their responsibilities.

  • The OCM role is open to freshmen and sophomores enrolled in CC, SEAS, Barnard, and GS. This opportunity is designed to engage students early in their academic careers with a keen interest in finance.

  • OCM applications open in the fall each year. A more detailed timeline will be released in August to provide applicants with sufficient preparation time.

  • Our OCM application consists of two rounds: a written application and an interview. The written application includes a resume drop and a few short response questions about your interest in CFIG and finance in general. If you are selected to move on to the in-person interview round, we will ask you to present a finance-related topic or news story.

  • We welcome all candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in finance, regardless of their majors or prior experience in the field. Sophomore applicants are expected to possess at least a foundational understanding of technical finance knowledge.

  • OCMs will present market recaps at our speaker events and aid the executive board in organizing and advertising the events. They are also expected to attend our weekly education sessions and meetings to strengthen their knowledge of technical finance concepts and skills.

  • To join the E-Board, students must first apply and be accepted as an OCM. After taking part for a year, select OCMs are then promoted to the E-Board based on their contributions and performance.

  • Non-members can contribute to the club by actively participating in our weekly speaker events, where they are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and engage in discussions. Bringing friends to these events is also a great way for non-members to support the club, helping us broaden our community and enhance the diversity of perspectives within it.

Programs & Events

  • Every week on Tuesday evenings, we invite a speaker across different industries and positions to share their insights and advice for college students. We invite a wide range of speakers ranging from investment banking to asset management to consulting and more. The first half of the event is moderated by our speaker coordinator, and the second half is open to questions from the audience. There may be networking opportunities available afterward as well.

  • We offer a variety of opportunities beyond speaker events that are open to all students, both undergraduate and graduate, and typically do not require registration unless stated otherwise. For example, CFIG organizes site visits in collaboration with our sponsors and other firms, ensuring that spaces are available for non-club members as well. You do not have to be an OCM or E-board member to attend any events we host.

  • CFIG provides its members with exposure to various firms and groups, along with opportunities to expand their networks through speaker events, site visits, and interactions with club alumni. Additionally, experienced members are eager to offer assistance with resumes, technical questions, and mock interviews, ensuring comprehensive support for career development.

  • We do not offer internships directly, as we are a student-run organization. However, internship opportunities sourced from our network are circulated through our newsletter to members.

  • CFIG does not invest in the stock market. Our primary focus is educating our members about technical finance concepts and discussing current market trends. We aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the financial markets, which also includes investment principles and strategies.
